The Mobility Data Space is funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV). It is part of the European cloud initiative Gaia-X.

The holding company of the Mobility Data Space is the non-profit organisation DRM Datenraum Mobilität GmbH, which emerged from a project run by the acatech Foundation.

By the end of 2024, the MDS will be fully linked to the Mobilithek, the platform for exchanging digital information, primarily from the public sector.

„Take the mobility of the future. Data will play a decisive role – for autonomous driving, in the networking of different means of transport or in the intelligent control of traffic flows. That is why we need a uniform, cross-border European mobility data space as soon as possible.

We have made a start in Germany with the Mobility Data Space. Let's link it with the whole of Europe. It is open to everyone who wants to make a difference. In this way, we can become a global pioneer.“

The Mobility Data Space is a lighthouse project of the German Federal Government's digital strategy.

The Federal Government has launched its new digital strategy. It focuses on projects and initiatives that make data in key areas of the economy and society usable in a responsible way. The Mobility Data Space is one of 18 lighthouse projects. This motivates us even more in our mission to connect people and enable sovereign data exchange, so that mobility can become safer, more sustainable and more user-friendly!

„We need an environment where creativity and innovation can flourish as freely as possible, where data is available and accessible, and where there is a clear value compass and transparency. That is why we rely on open data, sharing communities and data spaces such as our Mobility Data Space.

In the transport sector, we can use intelligently connected data to tailor transport services to individual needs and develop new, climate-friendly mobility solutions such as autonomous shuttles.“

„The Mobility Data Space is a central element of the Federal Government's data strategy because data is the enabler of the mobility of the future.

For the mobility turnaround to succeed and for us to soon have safe, reliable, comfortable and sustainable traffic and transport options in cities and rural areas, the participation of the federal states and municipalities is of immense importance. I am therefore very pleased that the Free State of Bavaria is now also involved in the MDS.“
